Paul Wetzstein (2015-2019)

The UMBC Athletic Band program was under the direction of Paul Wetzstein from 2015-2019. Assisting Paul were a cadre of of Student Leaders.

Paul Wetzstein is a UMBC alumnus and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis on education. He began playing the trumpet in 2000, the trombone in 2003, and the guitar in 2008.

Wetzstein has extensive experience performing trombone, trumpet, and leadership roles in a variety of groups, including the UMBC Wind Ensemble, DDDB, Big Band Jazz Ensemble, as well as the Long Reach High School Concert Band and Marching Lightning. He was also a member of the UMBC Mama’s Boys Acapella Group from 2008–2010, where he led rehearsals as assistant music director, arranged music, and competed in the International Competition of Collegiate Acapella in 2009 and 2010 with the group.

Wetzstein was a student director for the UMBC DDDB from August 2007 through May 2010, where he specialized in recruiting, maintaining membership, assisting with running rehearsals, and organizing and leading performances. Outside of music, the Ellicott City-based swimmer, cyclist, and runner works as an ice technician, zamboni driver, and legal research associate.
